I’m in My 50s Is a Hearing Assessment Necessary?

I’m in My 50s Is a Hearing Assessment Necessary?

Each year we make sure to get our teeth cleaned, our eyesight checked, and our physical health evaluated— but when was your last hearing test?

If you’re in your 50s and you’ve recently encountered challenges related to your hearing, know that you are not alone. But hearing loss affects everyone differently; you have unique needs regarding your care and treatment options.

Hearing loss is increasingly common among young adults, particularly in an environment filled with various noise levels that can impair auditory health.

Contrary to popular belief, personalized hearing care is accessible to individuals of all ages. Getting a comprehensive hearing assessment is a proactive step that can help you address your hearing concerns before they progress to a more serious stage.

How Can a Hearing Test Help Me?

Many individuals delay seeking help for their hearing difficulties, often waiting up to seven years before addressing the issue, which can lead to significant health complications, including cognitive decline and various physical health challenges.

A hearing assessment not only addresses auditory health, but it can also have a profound impact on your mental well-being. Many of our patients have expressed increased confidence in their hearing abilities and overall self-assurance after receiving assessments and appropriate care from our team!

While many experience the benefits of specialized hearing care starting at age 50, we have seen patients of all ages come in feeling uneasy and doubtful, only to leave with newfound confidence about their hearing and their futures.

Acknowledging the need for assistance is a significant first step toward better hearing health.

What to Expect During Your Hearing Assessment

During your appointment, you will collaborate with a qualified hearing care provider who will review your health history. Understanding genetic predispositions to hearing loss is crucial, as this information can inform your treatment plan.

The assessment typically begins with a brief cleaning of your ears, since wax buildup can sometimes obscure hearing. After your ears are prepared, you will don headphones and listen for a series of tones, enabling us to assess your hearing capabilities across different frequencies.

At Encore Hearing Care, we also offer a more comprehensive "Hear Wellness" assessment. This extended evaluation provides insights into how your hearing challenges may affect various aspects of your life, including physical health and emotional well-being. We aim to equip you with the information necessary to make informed decisions about your hearing care.

While it is beneficial for everyone to have their hearing checked, assessments are especially crucial for those who are 50 or above. Age-related hearing loss is common and can reveal other underlying medical conditions that also require attention.

Are You Concerned About Your Hearing?

Scheduling a hearing assessment can safeguard your social connections, professional endeavors, and family interactions. With a clear understanding of your hearing capabilities, you can continue to engage fully with all that life offers.

Reach out to us to discuss your needs or to arrange a convenient time for an evaluation. You can easily contact our office at (386) 322-0831 or request a callback to learn more about our services and how we can assist you in achieving better hearing health.

Your hearing is vital— don't hesitate to take the necessary steps to support it!
